Excited, happy, surprised
I bought this for the side saddle mount to attach a bullet quiver to my Marlin .44 Mag SBL 1894, knowing it was designed for different calibers. I planned to swap out the quiver for one that fit .44 Mag, but to my surprise, the included quiver holds my .44 Mag rounds perfectly. While it's labeled "Not compatible with other rifle calibers," it seems to work just fine with handgun ammo.

I made it work
I purchased this for my Marlin 1895 SBL. While it does fit on the rifle, the 45-70 cartridges would be extremely tight, so tight in fact it would almost be impossible to remove one. I reamed the holders out with a large drill bit and cut the plastic in between each loop as to allow a little more flexibility in the plastic. Now the cartridges fit great. I did try 243 and 30-30, which fit fine before I modified it, but if you want this for a larger cartridge, be prepared to modify it. Otherwise, this shell carrier seems to be of great quality.

Wish it came in a .357 cartridge size. Made modifications to a .223. Was worth it.
I had asked a question about if a .223 size might fit a .357 cartridge. Received a "yes". So I thought i'd give it a try for my lever action. Wanted a fore-stock holder to increase immediate ammo access since the tube mag only holds 7. Well, .357 were just a bit too big. I figured I might have to ream out the thing, and I did. The part that attaches to the picatinny rail is metal, and the cartridge panel is thick, sturdy plastic. I started with a Dremel type tool and a small sanding stone (the smallest drum sandpaper fitting was too big). Did half of them, then thought a 3/8 drill bit might work. It didn't, still too tight. Finished the rest with the Dremel and used the drill bit to remove plastic burrs. If you go slow, a little bit and check, a bit more you'll be fine. Hardest part is keeping it round, but it's do-able. Haven't put it on my tool yet. Had to touch-up the paint because of initial lack of patience. Couple more coats and should be fine. Be back if any negatives happen. Worth the modifications required.Back after installing. My rifle has peep sights. The piece mounting on the picatinny rail is too tall to allow use of the sights. Not a deal breaker for me as I was considering a red dot, which is on order (now), from the get go. The holder just barely allows a comfortable grip at the fore-stock. So take these points into consideration. It’s very sturdy on the rifle. I happy.
