Great quality and price and made in the UK
I’ve found that the MK Logic Plus range is generally excellent and this double socket is no exception. The socket looks stylish and contemporary with its well-defined curved edges. Nothing feels sharp. The quality of the plastic moulding is very good and the action of the switches is smooth and positive. As well as looking good, the smooth edges make it easy to wipe the fittings clean as necessary.Plugging in equipment is also smooth and plugs are held firmly in place. The fitting of the socket was straightforward with the terminals well positioned and properly marked. The wires are channelled nicely into the terminals by special moulding described in the listing as “funnel entrance”. As with other MK products I have used over the years, the terminal screws are a little stiff to get moving but once you’ve loosened them, positioned the wires and tightened them they hold the wires securely.I find the quality of this socket outstanding and the price very good.

Get a good 3mm flat head screwdriver with a fat handle
The MK Logic Plus sockets are about the safest you can buy and are made in Britain. The MK Essentials were made in China and subject to a safety recall in December 2024. You can read about that on the Gov.UK website.Excellent construction but the plastic thread locking compound requires you to use some force. A 2mm screwdriver will slip and damage the screw head. A 4mm screwdriver will not fit through the hole above the screw head. I like the 45° angle which makes it easy to fasten without knocking your hand on the wall.I found that even as a not very skilled DIY person it was a less than 10 minute job if you don't include moving furniture and clearing up afterwards.Further thoughts, compared with other sockets. The switches are double pole so disconnect both Live and Neutral (which might save you if you have wired them the wrong way round). The screws that connect to the metal wall box are themselves connected to the Earth pin so the fact of just screwing in the socket earths the metal wall box. The three pin socket can only connect if all three pins are inserted. Why anyone would jam a screwdriver into the Earth socket to move the shutters and expose the Live terminal is beyond me, but some people do this with other sockets. This socket will not let you do that.

Good quality, annoying screw terminals
The socket itself is good quality and looks nice (not cheap). The placement of the wiring terminals is great and the socket is nice and shallow with screws accessed from the top making fitting straightforward. I used a 30mm deep surface mount box, but I think you could get away with a slimmer one if you don't mind a bit of a struggle with the wires.Others have commented that the screw terminals are stiff or corroded. They are not, the manufacturer has applied blue thread-lock compound to the terminal screw threads. Whilst this is a great idea it makes the terminals too difficult to screw down tightly as the compound has already set. I had to use an electric screwdriver to get enough force to wind them in and out a few times which removes most of the thread-lock, this inevitably damages the screw heads making them more difficult to do up tightly when installing the socket. This also defeats the purpose of both the thread-lock and having the socket supplied with the screws already backed out for faster fitting. This is a commendable idea from the manufacturer as even correctly torqued screws can over a long time (years) loosen due to repeated heating and cooling of the terminals during normal use, unfortunately the way they have executed this idea makes installation exceptionally difficult to do competently, and more likely that a DIY installer will not do them up tightly enough due to how tight they already feel when screwing in.

A good quality double socket.
After months of procrastination, my partner and I decided last week that it was about time that we finally got around to redecorating our living room, so on Friday we started shuffling the furniture around and emptying the room - we ordered a new carpet from SCS and a heap of new furniture from that famous Swedish megastore. After moving the TV cabinet away from the wall I noticed that one of the double sockets, which were only installed two years ago after getting the whole house rewired, was badly cracked and broken. After much scratching of heads, we remembered that one of the pictures had fell off the wall a few months back, so it had obviously smacked off the socket on the way down and done the damage.Fiddlesticks!I may have let slip with a few naughtier words than that, because finances were getting a tad on the squeaky side of things and the thought of spending at least £100 on getting an electrician to replace the socket wasn't sitting well with me. As a result of this, I done a bit of Googling to see if it was a difficult job to do myself and found that, in essence, it's no more difficult to do than replacing the plug on something. As usual, I turned to Amazon to see if I could get a replacement double socket and found this one for less than a fiver. The 'buy' button was duly clicked and I waited for it to arrive.IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Now, I should admit at this point that it took some serious chutzpah to drum up the courage to replace a mains electrical socket. As much as I like to think my all-round handyman skills are pretty well established, I definitely don't usually meddle with electricity, gas or plumbing, so it took several YouTube videos and browsing various forum articles on how to replace sockets before I decided that it was something that I could (and should) do! If you're currently in the same boat I was in, I can only say that you should only give it a shot if you're feeling confident enough to do so. If not, call an electrician!Once the socket arrived (quickly, as always), as soon as I'd unwrapped it from it's packaging, I was flipping the main breaker on my consumer unit, pulling the broken socket from the wall and testing the terminals at the back of it to make sure that the power was definitely off. Happy with the zero-reading I got on the meter, I set to pulling the cables from the old one and popping them into this new one.The back of it is clearly marked with 'N' for 'Neutral', the symbol for 'Earth' and 'L' for 'Live', so it was a simple case of popping both of the blue wires into the slot beneath 'N' and tightening the screw to hold them tightly in place - and then repeating the same process on the earth (yellow and green) and live (brown) ones. Finally, all I needed to do then was push the socket into place and screw it onto the mounting plate on the wall. Job done.I was incredibly pleased that after flipping the power back on, the socket worked perfectly and that although it looks slightly different to the rest of the ones in the room, it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. It's a good quality bit of kit too, with nice clicky switches and a substantial feeling to it, so I can thoroughly recommend them!
