Great intro book to read about Buddhism
My girlfriend turned me on to Buddhism. This was my first book I read about Buddhism. Thich Nhat Hanh does a great job explaining things in a easy to follow way. I have since bought 6 or 7 of his books. He is amazing if you have any interest in Buddhism read his books.

Not what I was expecting
I bought this for my college-age grandson, who had expressed an interest in Buddhism, based on the positive reviews and what I had known previously of Thay's inspiring writing. And I bought one for myself, as I hadn't read it. I would say it is definitely not for beginners. Although it is fascinating, and I am expecting to find it more inspiring later on, the first section is technical and very oriented toward the sectarian history of Buddhism and the divergence of those paths. This is somewhat interesting to me from an intellectual perspective, but I know my grandson's eyes would just glaze over, so trying a different book for him. I am always astounded by Thay's command of the English language and, in this book, his obvious erudition when it comes to "canonical" texts. This is a whole different side to his writing than my favorite devotional, Your True Home. Glad to have it and looking forward to later sections.
