Real sermons for real people.
I wish I could sing like Barbra Streisand. How I could make myself happy. I wish I could express myself like Barbara Brown Taylor. How I could make the world joyful with hope.

Deep thinker with a light hand...
I have several of Barbara Brown Taylor's sermon collections, and this is a rather late but most welcome addition. I am glad the volume was re-published. She.e is a really deep thinker with a very light touch; she gets you into the deep waters and then brings you on out again with a refreshing new "take" on material you thought you knew well. And while much of her writing is highly personal, it is never self-indulgently so - as result he really does illuminate the text - generously, helpfully and often wisely. Love it!

Meets the Reader Wherever...
Taylorโs conversational style is so genuine, that no matter how far apart in time it is that you revisit this book, in chapter or totality, itโs as if you went to the kitchen to grab the coffee pot, and you can pick up the dialogue right where your heart left off. Wise and warm โ highly recommend.

Good for personal reading or as a resource for a study group.
I have read several books by Barbara Brown Taylor and I'm always ready for more. This particular one is working very well with a study group of women who meet weekly year round. The length of the sermon chapters is ideal for reading ahead or for reading together as a group. The author has a knack for finding something new or for providing an extended perspective on familiar portions of scripture. She is candid about sharing her personal reactions to the selected text. This book was well researched and speaks timeless truths that are relevant ten years after its first publication.

A nice collection of BBT's works which can instruct and inspire the minister wanting to do some preaching from Matthew, but can also be read simply for their personal edification of any reader seeking to challenge and grow in their faith.

Seeds for Constant Growth
I heard these sermons as radio talks in 1990, was very impressed, and sent for the published version. When I couldn't find it recently I immediately ordered the current edition. Barbara Brown Taylor is an outstanding preacher, both in content and manner of delivery. Her words deserve to be heard, read, marked, learned, and inwardly digested.

A Good Cursillo Reunion Study
This has been a great study book for a small Christian community. The chapters are short enough (since they were meant to be heard rather than read) to work for a group that only has a little bit of time to devote to the study. The chapters are, however, packed with plenty to think about and provide food for great discussions when the group meets. For a study guide to the Gospel according to Matthew, this is the perfect book.

Heaven can wait.
At first I thought that ths would be a good book fopr church people, but I found out that it was more of a theolgical treatesis than reading for church people.
