Q: Does this dongle work with the new for the mac book pro 15-in 2018 with a 87w adaptor?

It worked at first. But after 3 months, it is totally unreliable for charging and keeping the computer charged. I would not recommend it. Buy a certified Apple product if available!

Q: Will this charge mbp and run the thunderbolt display at the same time, with one usb c connection?

No. It’s not thunderbolt. I have this setup on my desk at work and I have two connections used. Considering the TB2 display didn’t power previously over thunderbolt it’s not a stretch it doesn’t work like that. That said this adapter DOES provide power from the mag safe adapter and I can confirm that. I will be buying one or two more.
