We are in a time where chaos is so common and even encouraged by people we should be able to trust, it is necessary to get back to basics to find truth and peace in ourselves. Since Vanier knows this because he too faced such a time, he is an understanding and compassionate guide to the rest of it is caught in the turmoil where peace only seems non existent because there are some who want to manipulate the turmoil to benefit their personal agenda without concern for others.

Jean Vanier is not only the beloved founder of the L'Arche movement but also a deep thinker for our turbulent times. In this book he builds a case for the bold and difficult choice to accept and forgive.....ourselves, our family members, and those who have harmed us. He challenges us to embrace the words of many religious leaders to love our enemies, to see ourselves band others in brokenness and embrace our shared humanity.

Short and to the point.. Every human being needs to read this book. Too much to share .. just get a copy and find a comfy place .. make sure you have a pen/pencil and a notebook( or write all in the book like I do) and sip on something yummy.. you'll be changed.

Bought this for myself and as a gift for someone else. We both loved it. As a mom of a daughter with disabilities I found it validating and full of wisdom. I highly recommend to all and anyone.

At first I saw this book as another recount of what happens in special group homes. By the time I finished it became abook of introspection and reflection. I highly recommend.

For the Christian seeking a role model of great humility, it is very hard to beat Vanier. He inspires me to look upon my fellow man with Christ's loving eyes.

I am heartbroken at the emerging allegations of abuse once again. How can this happen? It certainly taints the message, however beautiful.

A fundamental book in understanding humanity and how it is that we are to live with each other. Becoming human has broken me down and allowed me to be rebuild with no prejudice towards anyone! All humans are equal and Jean Vanier explains this through his establishing of the L"Arche community throughout the world! A must read for everyone no matter your cultural or religious background!
