Good Solid Lock
I got this to replace a 20 year old Union 5-lever lock on my front door. The lock slotted into the existing recess with no trouble; only the faceplate was longer and needed a bit of chiselling. The box in the plate on the door frame was longer, wider and deeper so a bit more chiselling was required. However, it was fairly simple to replace. I did not realise that locks could look good but the brass facings on this one are really smart. If you are fitting this lock on a new door, there are cut-out templates to make things easier. Just make sure that you match the door/door frame templates exactly!

Decent quality lock
There are a confusing number of similar locks all made by the same manufacturers using the Union, Chubb and Yale brands. You often can't see the cheaper construction without looking inside. This lock is almost identical to the once much more expensive Chubb 3U74E and uses the same brass levers. The manufacturers had to rebrand them when they didn't renew the licence to use the Chubb name which they now no longer use for locks. The only differences are the case colour and the smaller curtain to fit the slimmer bright metal keys rather than the traditional brass keys supplied when sold as Chubb. As such they are decent quality locks that should last for many years though it's a pity the external finish is just plated rather that solid brass as Chub locks once were. There still are some of the old Chubb versions around at a similar price now but they can't be keyed alike with the Union versions without changing the curtains. The lock meets the latest BS3621 2007 standard meaning it requires a key to be opened from either side, so suitable for most private homes, but not suitable for fire escapes that require standards BS8621 or BS10621.
