It is clear that he loved his sons (who are written in as his nephews
Have not finished this book yet, but am enjoying it thoroughly! Old but still thought provoking and in line with so much of educational principles/laws. Respect for students of all ages, awe of the creation and how it works together, are themes throughout Fabre's works for children. The hardest part of this is realizing that the elder son died, breaking so much of Fabre's heart from then on. It is clear that he loved his sons (who are written in as his nephews.....). So yes, the love of teacher/student is very clear and endearing.

Terrible edition, do not buy! Is not the one shown in preview.
The book itself is good, but don't buy this edition! I'm not sure how I accidentally ended up with this edition instead of the one shown under "Look Inside" -- I clearly wasn't paying enough attention -- but there's a good reason why the publisher doesn't include the preview of the inside of this actual book! "May have" numerous typos?!? More like, virtually illegibly tiny text, printed in multiple columns newspaper-style (which totally mismatches the tone and style of the book), and so many typos / scanning errors that it is hard in some points to make out what was the intention. No table of contents, etc. In short, it is absolutely nothing like the preview, unfortunately. I bought this book for my nine-year-old daughter, but I don't think she'll be able to read it since she doesn't understand the sort of predictable errors typically made by OEM scanning and will just get frustrated. To be clear, I did receive the book pictured, with the pink flower on the front. Unfortunately, that book is not the one in the preview, and it is basically unreadable.

Chemistry as a subject to discuss with the family
I like the warm tone in which the experiments are being explained and the children's perspective over it.

Not much wonder
Basically, an introduction to chemistry for children. It is worth reading only because of Fabre's wonderful literary gift. Not much that any adult doesn't know already.

great way to learn chemistry!
At first I was skeptical about the approach of this book. But there is really a lot of chemistry being taught without it feeling like it! The explanations of the experiments make it very doable for a student to do them. Much better than having to read a textbook.

Have read other books by Fabre and like them! Great LIVING BOOKS
Have not used it yet, but have perused it, and am looking forward to using it as a part of teaching chemistry to my children, using the Charlotte Mason method. Have read other books by Fabre and like them! Great LIVING BOOKS!
