Thirst No. 4: The Shadow of Death (4)

The End, Again
In 1996, with The Last Vampire: Creatures of Forever, Christopher Pike concluded Sita's story. In 2010, he showed us all that Sita's story was not, in fact, over. As if that wasn't enough, he also promised another book, another extension of the series, a glimpse of something more. In 2011, he delivered on that promise...and Sita's story, it seems, is concluded once again.Or is it? I feel now just as I felt fifteen years ago as a thirteen year old girl finishing a beloved series. Things are all wrapped up nicely. There's a pretty bow tied around this beautiful tale and it appears, truly, as if the end has been reached. But I was convinced then that it was the last of the last vampire, and I was proved wrong. I have to say at this point, though I do believe Sita's tale is fully told, that I hope against hope Mr. Pike is able to continue forward from where Thirst No. 4 ends and that I am wrong again.Thirst No. 4 picks up exactly where Thirst No. 3 left off. There's clues enough through the book, though, that even if it's been a year since you read No. 3, you should easily be able to follow everything that's currently happening. As I said in my review of Thirst No. 3: The Eternal Dawn, I know that not everything Christopher Pike writes is a masterpiece and obviously the man's writing has some flaws. This book, though, is just fantastic. The pace is spot on - not too fast, not too slow. Like most everything of his that I've read, the story grabs you by the neck and yanks you so deep inside its complex web that you're unable to surface again until the very end when you're left sputtering and gasping, yearning for just a tiny iota more and yet ultimately feeling satisfied. The Last Vampire series is dark yet beautiful, charged with emotion, gripping, and utterly remarkable. Sita's story is tragic, fantastic, and magical and I feel honored that Mr. Pike chose to share her life with us.Read it, people.

We all need Sita
Sita is the being who watches over all of humanity and ensures good will always win. She banishes evil and lets good flourish. If I didn’t love her before this book, I definitely would now.I really liked how Sita became Teri. I felt that being a newborn helped to remind her of where she came from and where she needed to be. I liked even more when she realized who Umara was and found her missing body.I know there’s another book and I’m looking forward to it. I will definitely be mourning the loss of Sita at the end of this series. Part of me really hopes someone like her is out there keeping this world safe.If you haven’t yet, please give this series a try. Even if you don’t like vampires, you might like this. Although this book extends more into the sci-fi world than most of the other books, so I think have have to have an open mind to sci-fi type books to like it. Happy reading y’all!!

I would describe it as matrix like, only The Matrix didn't come out for over ...
I read The Last Vampire series when they came out in the late 90's and re-bought them after my Husband left them during a move a decade ago. I found when I searched 3 more new books had been added to the series. XD Christopher Pike was ahead of his time, as the opening to Red Dice proves. I would describe it as matrix like, only The Matrix didn't come out for over a year after Red Dice was released. This story has special meaning for me and were favorite rereads idk how many times now. Re-discovering them was fun given I have internet access now. lol If you haven't read this its worth reading the first 2 thirst books. The writers skill has improved greatly since the first 6 books. As audiences pushed for greater detail in their literature. Though one aspect of the 'resurrection' of the series is explained poorly. But it is a necessary evil in order to continue the series. I honestly haven't thought of better explanations than was given, and overthinking small necessities will be a story killer if obsessed over. Overall I am happy with the continuations. There is currently a movie deal being negotiated but previous deals have fallen through. Many details of the fated deal were not released. I'm hoping something gets worked out soon. Chris Pike wants to maintain creative control, making a challenge of finding willing participants. So I will wait patiently.

An epic journey ending in a place we all have been hoping for!
I was always a big fan of the ending in TLV before Pike resurrected Sita for Thirst #3, but I am glad he took such a bold step and brought back to "life" one of the most amazing characters of our time. Thirst #4 has been on my mind for a long time. How would it all play out? Where would Sita end up? All I knew for sure was that Pike never backs down, is fearless about putting those character's we love in the most awful situations where there seems to be no hope, no way out. And then Pike shows us that there is always hope and with hope there is always a way to solve a problem. Sita once again must ride the fine line between light and darkness, a war that is endless. I laughed, I cried. I read the whole damn thing in one day! You cannot stop turning the pages to see what will come next. Pike's books are literary crack and Thirst #4 is Pike doing what he does so well, better than most writers out there. he takes you to places you just cannot swallow and you do, swallow them, because he makes it all so really, so wonderful, so hearbreaking. I can't get enough and I am hopefull we might see Sita again :) I can't wait for the movie!

Forever a fan...
I ordered this book the day it came out and read it in 3 days (that's a record for me BTW). I devoured the first 3 books and was anxious for this one. I am probably the minority here - but I was a tad disappointed. Maybe it's because I'm not a huge sci-fi fan and there's a lot of (confusing) sci-fi and a bunch of Heaven/Hell allegory in this that I didn't care for - that's why I gave it 4 stars and not 5 (the first three books got 5 from me). I miss the strong, butt-kicking Sita from books past - and I get that she was "Teri" for a while but still. All that being said, I'm still a huge fan and will continue to read these books should he put out more (rumors on his FB page say there will be a couple more books). And of course if a movie is made I'll be thrilled to death with it. I hope you enjoy these books as much as I do!

WOW
I love "The Last Vampire" series, they are fantastic! Enough of this Twilight banter, if you want real action, with a vampire who is so powerful then this is the series for you. I'm proud to read these books, they are very full on and extremely hard to put down.Next to "The Southern Vampire Mysteries" these are my all time favourite vampire series!

Sita's story continues
I've been a fan of this series for a long time, so I might be biased but couldn't put it down. Enemy of my enemy and all that as she's in a rock and a hard place between the Telar and the IIC. Must read at least the previous book for it to make more sense. The first few books in this series are linked but do stand alone from Thirst 3, 4 (this one) and 5.
