Bruce Marchiano stars in this dramatic production which helps viewers discover what may have happened during the miraculous journey on the Road to Emmaus. Mourning the death of Jesus, two first-century travelers were joined by a mysterious stranger. Over the next few hours, the stranger revealed many mysteries that lay hidden in the ancient Scriptures. Soon, the purpose of Jesus' life became clear...and the travelers' sadness turned to great joy.

It was refreshing towatch a movie that favors the simple
It was refreshing to watch a movie that favors the simple, direct method of developing a solid theme with solid characters, instead of developing a culturally attractive spectacle. This is one of those rare gems that actually adds to my understanding of the original text, and inspires me toward further sift through the movie and text to better understand both. This film's main focus is to connect the substance of Scripture with simple but mysterious sentence in Luke: "And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself." The actor portraying Jesus steps through the sequence of Scripture (Abraham, Moses, David, Isaiah) to give us a full picture of what Luke so succinctly summarizes in one sentence. His use of Scripture is simple (he does not detract from textual authority by using 'artistic license'), yet elegantly (he uses Scripture in the natural progression of conversation, never making you feel he is clubbing anyone over the head with it). The main actor pulls this off masterfully, almost too masterfully, because the producer doesn't really do justice to developing the other two characters due to a focus on Jesus (not necessarily a bad thing, but it does leave something to be desired because Cleopas and his friend are archetypes of you and me). My only regret is the brevity of the film. There is so much more that could have been developed in terms of Old Testament events and prophecy (e.g. how do the exilic and post-exilic periods fit in with the coming of the Messiah and with his two comings? Why did Jesus abruptly end his reading of Isaiah 61 in the middle of a sentence during his commissioning at Nazareth?) and in terms of the characters of Cleopas and his friend (their questions seemed a little hurried at times, and there was minimal development of feeling and struggling on their part). I would love to see an expanded re-make of the film, but I believe the cast and crew worked diligently within the limits and constraints they had to deal with. Overall, I commend the actors, writer, and producer, who invested their talents (great or small) to produce something greater than themselves.

30 Minute Run Time
This was a very short film, which would make it suitable for showing in a class, Bible study, or other group where time is limited. I've never seen this part of Jesus' story told on film, so it was refreshing. I also liked how Bruce Marchiano looked with longer hair, in a more familiar look than the short-haired films where he looks more contemporary. Since it was a short film, they did well in presenting their message. Still, I was disappointed that the Old Testament Bible study I'd hoped for wasn't more in-depth, because many Christians aren't as familiar with prophecies of the Messiah as they should be. Wouldn't you have loved to have walked to Emmaus with Jesus, getting a Bible study that makes your heart burn within you? However, a teacher could follow up with a study on the passages He would have quoted.

Interesting
This film may only be 30 minute's long but it is a interesting insight into whatJesus would have told those two disciple on the road to Emmaus. I was hooked.
