Uni 8/0 thread is the standard for tying #18 and smaller. If you knick this thread, it doesn't break easily and just as important, it doesn't explode into a million hairs that pollute the tie. You tie slower and effect the precise work on small flies. I have been tying for 60 years (before I ever cast a fly), and I know what ties demand each manufacture's products attributes.
