Rufus the curious
I love this classic book from my childhood! So glad to see it's in print again! The tale is sweet and heroic, and the illustrations are perfectly matched to the text. Kids of all ages will love Rufus!

Try it at the library first
I bought this on impulse because I was doing a bat unit in homeschooling and I thought it looked cute. I expected some sort of story about a bat who wants to go out in the day because he likes to see the daytime colors but ends up appreciating all the beauty of the night colors too. Nope, it starts out sweet but then devolves into this poor bat being chased and shot at, there’s even an illustration of rifles pointed at him. No discernible lesson here either. Gorgeous pictures though and I almost kept it for that reason but I ended up donating it to the library. I just couldn’t see us reading it again.

the children's books worth buying
there are a lot of children's books one may like to won for sentiment, or nostalgia. I buy this writer's books because his stories are timeless, like Kafka, and they always seem to end with loose ends. In this particular book, the end effect is a story about a bat's friendship with a butterfly collector that somehow seems real, not invented. Helps to make the world more interesting, and lovely.

Childhood favorite.....
Loved this book as a child. I'm 50+ now and wanted to introduce Tomi Ungerers colorful universe to my grand-daughter. I'll be picking up his entire collection one by one. Thanks for the re-release!
