Note: This book is great on advertising for the first 17 pages. Pages 18 - 29 are all about persuading your child to become a "health advocate," a topic I'm not currently interested in. I glanced at those pages; but am reviewing this book based on the advertising section -- the first 17 pages. The book looks at how advertising works, discusses persuasion techniques, and takes a fictional character (Martina) into a summer internship at an advertising agency.Topics include:bandwagonimage appealstestimonials/expert opinionsjinglessloganscelebrity endorsementsmascotsgeneralizations/stereotypesomissionfood stylistsTakes a tiny look at the ethics of advertising.Illustrations are good, the pages are well-formatted, the text is clear, and this book is useful (the first half, anyway)Slim Goodbody's mission in life is to get kids to live healthier (a mascot! image appeal! expert opinions! the works!). This seems fine to me.
