College Students: Get A’s With This Book!!!
I HIGHLY recommend this book if you are in college for the first time, returning to college after a long time away, or struggling with writing in general. I felt very overwhelmed returning to college in my 30’s, and really needed help with academic writing. I have highlighted the heck out of this book! It breaks down what teachers look for when grading, how writing skills apply to the real world, how to a write a strong thesis statement, MLA and APA citation, common punctuation and grammar questions, and more. There are example essays where the author breaks down how the student could have improved their work. This book has been a huge help in my college writing, and I highly recommend it for anyone who needs help with academic writing!

Finally, a lucid guide to college level writing
"Good grief, not another book on writing! Isn't the market choked with these things?" ...Or so I thought, before I picked up Gill's wonderfully lucid guide to college writing. The book is clearly laid out with the student in mind, effortlessly toggling from explanation to example. So many college and high school writing textbooks are dreary for the teacher and student (and I speak from experience from both ends of that arrangement). As Gill states in the opening, this book was born from the supplemental materials she created for her students in order to make up for the inadequacies of the texts she had to use. Whether you teach high school, developmental education, adult education, or freshman comp, you ought to consider this book for your syllabus. If you are a student, who is actually interested in learning to write better, (which is the key to college success in all your other classes) get a copy to use in place of whatever tired, condescending, drivel your school has foisted upon you.

Practical, Common Sense Book To Read
It was a well-written book, flowed nicely and made for an easy read. It took me two days to finish it. The book was realistic and practical. The author gave insight into the "nature" of writing college papers. There was nothing academic about this book. The tone was factual. When I was a student, I wished I could have read a book like this.

Great book with information useful to everyone!
This book is a must have for high school students going in to college. These days high school writing courses are NOTHING like college writing classes, and if you don't want to drown in the ocean of expectations for writing in college, you should get this book as a guide. The tips are extremely helpful and the shipping was fast. This book will teach you writing skills no matter what age you are. Highly recommend this book to students and adults alike!

Such a fantastic read!
I'd never studied or written at a higher education level before, and this book helped me start from scratch, from figuring out what I wanted to say and what thoughts were flying about in my head to incorporating research into my writing. I like how it includes a list of books for further reading on which this book is clearly based, and how it prepares you to do some further investigation in specific areas if you choose to (such how to defeat the sneaky inner critic!).
