The Pacific Campaign in a box
O.k., first of all my computer is old, we're talking walks with a cane, and wears dentures old. so when i got into WW2 aerial combat, naturally I was looking for something that would play on my senior citizen of a computer. I was torn between this one and the original cfs. Judging by the fact that I am reviewing this one, you can guess my decision. The game arrived promptly(thanks prime!)and i was ready to fly into the page of history. There was just one little problem. When i fired up the game,i was dismayed to see that all the planes that i tried has a strange pixelated, multi-color paint job! I asked my dad to help me figure out what was up and we determined that my graphics card was too slow to handle it. so what do you do when the computer can't keep up with the game? You slow down the game. after i found the graphics controls and brought them all the way down to one, i saw the graphic improved remarkably. With my graphics issues solved i was for take-off. The game is awesome! The effort they put into making this game rock is really apparent. The Pacific skies and sea are beautiful, and the plane are all super-accurate. The pickings on aircraft is rather slim, but all the ones they do include are fantastic. You get two versions of the zero, the a6m2 and the later a6m5, the wildcat and hellcat, the p-38,another Japanese fighter called an n1k2 george, and of course, the corsair. They all fly like a dream and their individual armament can be chosen by you. The ships and islands are all very detailed and the weather is well-done aswell. There are several modes, the tutorials which are well done and informative, the campaign mode, which is very accurate and just challenging enough to make you work a bit,the single mission mode which puts you in the boots of some of the best pilots in the Pacific such as Pappy Boyington and Marion Carl, and also my personal favorite mode, quick combat. this mode allows the player to set everything and fly a custom mission in their chosen plane in their chosen circumstances. You can determine what type of mission it will be, such as an intercept, dogfight, or escort, choose the weather, and arrange which planes are on your wing, and which ones are in your sights. The combat is fun and challenging, and there is a wide array of planes you will encounter. and if you're tired of giving enemy pilots crash courses in swimming and just want to relax, head on over to free flight mode. this allows you to fly the plane of you choice from the airfield of your choice at the time of your choice(so many choices!)in a Pacific free of enemies. So overall, cfs2 is a well-rounded game with a few glitches, but nothing that will prevent you from enjoying an authentic flight experience. by the way, this was my first sim, and i put off getting a joystick till i got the game... bad idea.when you steer with the arrow keys, you have to manually reset the aelrons making flying normally as dangerous as dogfights. Within days i ordered the Logitech extreme 3d pro stick and never looked back, so get the game, get a joystick and let's hit the skies!

Pretty good
This is a very good flight sim. CFS 1 was better in the graphics area. This has a way better story line though. This had wonderful graphics too but not as great as the first combat flight simulator. Some of the complaints I have about this game are1. Your wingmen are useless when you want them to do something2. Even though the game is pretty long I wish it stopped at the surrender of Japan or the Americans victory3. It is too easy to complete missions.Other than that this is a flawless game.

Old and not adaptable to 2014 OS's
This has such poor graphics that it isn't worth loading. Straight out of the early 90's! It is time for an update for those of us who still want to game on a PC.

My experience, WWII Combat Flying Simulator2, Pacific Theater
This is a first class video game that enables the user to see what it must have been like to fly a combat mission in a WWII fighter aircraft. You can also choose to fly your favorite plane without becoming involved in combat. Just pick the aircraft you want to fly, go to the field, start the engine, take off and fly around and practice and then, when you are ready, lower the gear and flaps and land. All of the instruments are functional so you can learn how to fly yourself if you don't already have the skills. Once you are able to handle the plane, you can fly combat against computer simulated opponents using a range of experience levels from novice to ace (for your opponents). Or, try attacking an enemy bomber formation for a real eye opener. Odd's are, you will get shot down. The computer graphics are excellent as are the sound effects. Nothing like being awakend by the sound of a cannon shell ripping a hole in your wing while you are making a tight turn trying to get your gun sight on a Zero fighter. Not only will you hear the impact but, if you look out of the cockpit at the wing, you will see the big gaping hole and... you will feel the loss of control the damage has done. This simulator is so realistic that you can actually watch the brass cartridges being dumped from the wing chutes as you fire your 50 cal weapons.Another great feature of this program is its capability for the user to fly against another user using the internet or Eithernet cable as a link between two computers. Each computer must have its own computer CFS 2 disk for this to work. My setup uses two different computers in the same room. Each has a Logitech Extreem 3D PRO joystick (I believe any other USB ported Joystick will also work). One player signs on as Host and the other player joins the fight. On my screen, I can see my opponents aircraft and when I look over my shoulder I can see my aircraft on the other computers screen. It is a challenge to get into shooting position but, that's the idea... isn't it? Sometimes my 9-year old grandson will get on my tail and just nail me good. He has figured out how to lead the target. He laughs a lot when he whips me.This is an excellent program and will provide you with a real challenge and many years of fun.All in all, this is one of the finest quality combat flight simulators that I have had the pleasure of flying.Loren

Disappointing sequel
I had been flying Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator, WW II Europe series and found it to be a very enjoyable, but challenging simulator. I expected the same of CFS2 but found that, basically all you have is "Instant combat"; there are no missions to fly. I know that there are "Add-ons" and I did in fact purchase the Mosquito addition, but it didn't run.Altogether I found it to be a waste of bits.

Lacks the game factor
I purchased this game as a replacement for the venerable Aces Of The Pacific. While the game is a great flight simulator and is extremely involved The combat simulator leaves a lot to be desired. With all the intricacy of the flight model it seems they left out a lot of the fighting model. Planes that I know could do an Immelman turn in combat simply cannot do that in this simulator. Also the selection of planes is maybe half of the Aces of the Pacific selection, which adds to the disappointment. I would like to see someone update the Aces series for new computers so that these half baked attempts are knocked off of the shelf and into the serious Flight simulator only genre.
