Merely a transcription of the audio drills.
This book provides a plain transcription of the free downloadable drills. Each page shows one chapter of eighteen sentences (or phrases) in German. The audio drills are excellent, the book adds little unless you want to see how a word is spelled or if you need a cue to help with hearing or speaking the sentence. There are no grammar or usage notes, nothing to guide you from the specific to the general. It would be nice to have some information about using adjectives or forming the past tense, for instance. Again, the drills are excellent, but you will need some text other than this to go beyond the 1800 phrases offered.

excellent book.
Very nice book with basic German. Excellent way to start. One would need to get more serious books to continue but this one is nice basic book.

Great course for beginners
I've started with audio tutors which are free and great, but having a book showed really useful for recapitulating and learning to write. Really easy course for beginners, it really helps me.

Need to download the audio
Downloading is a bit of a pain but once done it is a good system. The only criticism is that the English grammar is not wonderful, you have to accept the German without worrying too much about the translation.

The book includes all of the texts for English sentences in German. It is a great reference book when you are not too sure what the German might be after listening to the audio.
