Works Great for Home use. Cheap construction, not recommended for commercial use.
This cable is not made from the same construction as you would see in higher quality cables. This cable is much thinner, flexible and made very cheaply as compared to what I deem a normal Ethernet patch cable would be. Plastic jacket on the wire is very thin and flexible and in my opinion will not hold up to any kind of mild abuse over the test of time. That being said, the cable did test OK and does work. If you are looking for a CAT5e cable at the cheapest price and using this for home use where it will not be subject to any kind of abuse, then I would say you will be fine. The advantages would be that the cable is somewhat thinner than a commercial patch cable and would be easier to run around baseboards etc. If you are in a commercial environment, I would not recommend this cable and go with something much higher grade as it may not last that long over the test of time if subject to any kinds of abuse. When I say abuse, I'm taking about a cable on the floor under a desk where someones feet constantly come in contact with it, or it gets pulled accidentally repeatedly or run over by a chair or something heavy sits on it or crimps it. Not that any of what I mentioned should be done to any cable, but let's face it, these things happen. So there you have it. It works, it's made cheap, it costs much less than more expensive cables. Recommend for cheap home use. Do not recommend for Commercial or Business environments. If the construction was better, would have given (5) Stars. Govern yourself accordingly.

Doesn't Lend Confidence...
I was shocked when I opened the package and found this cable inside. I couldn't even believe that there was 50 feet in that little roll of Ethernet cable. This is not to say that size matters, but I'm a little concerned about the performance and longevity of this Cat5e cable.I've included a couple of images to show you the difference between the cable I'm replacing and the new one from Cables Direct. The truth is, if I were walking thru an electronics store in search of a replacement cable, there is no way I would have walked out of the store with this one. It just doesn't lend confidence that it will perform well or for very long. You should know that the only reason I am replacing the current Ethernet cable is because it was accidentally severed by a construction crew. My first instinct is to just pony up the dough and order a proper cable, but I will give this one a try because there is not a lot involved in installing it. Hope this helps in your decision.

Flimsy
I tried to use this cable in attic with RJ45 female connectors - bad, bad idea. This cable is unshielded, it might have twisted, or bent - by the time I was done, there were no conductivity between the ends. I re-crimped the ends a few times, but it was obvious the cable was broken. I didn't test it before the installation, so it could've been damaged from the beginning. I went to a store and bought a shielded cable, which ran through the attic just fine, and 1 GB connection was made on the first crimp attempt.Needless to say, I would not be purchasing this cable again, and suggest you do not either. It's not worth your time to troubleshoot the issues with this cable.

Good cable but not shielded
It works great however its not insulated or shielded whatsoever which can lead to other wiring or signals to interfere with the connection. It was a lot smaller then i expected, you can hold the entire wire in the package in the palm of your hand easily and it weighs less then a half pound. So far I havent had any interference at all from other wiring. But you get what you pay for. A $5 Ethernet cable can only be so good in quality. I am getting my full internet speeds over this wire which is 12MBps down and 1Mbps up. Overall id buy it again because its so dirt cheap and is easily replaceable.

Cable is Not Standard Size, and Internal Wires are Too High Of Gauge to Be Useful
This is probably the worst Amazon purchase in my life. Note that I bought this to make my length cables with DIY terminations and specific color strain relief jackets for my home network setup (I like to color code each cable coming in/out of my router/switch so I know at a glance which cable is active/whatever). When I cut the stock terminations and slid on my own strain relief jackets, I saw that the cable itself is smaller than the standard Cat 5/5e/6/∞ cables. What was even more disappointing was that the individual twister pairs of wires are of a lighter gauge, and getting them to slide into a plastic ethernet plug was so difficult. Stupid cable. Don't ever buy.

1000mb or Gigabit ethernet cabling for cheap $$$.
Purchased this ethernet cord shortly after the stupid clip on one my previous ethernet cord snapped off (don'tcha hate when that happens?).. Anyways, I have Verizon Fios Gigabit internet in my home (940mb download to be exact, but they still call it Gigabit, go figure) and was in need of this cable. Sure if you have lower speed internet it will still work, but this ethernet cable is CAT 5e which means not only can it handle 10mb speed like CAT 5, but also 1000mb or Gigabit speed internet. Checked the speed on speedtest.net and sure enough it gets me around 900mb download and 940 upload so yes this is real CAT 5e ethernet cable. Its thinner compared to my last ethernet, but don't let the size fool you. This is real Gigabit ethernet cable right here. Recommended.

Works fine but be cautious when running the cable
As far as I can tell, signal integrity is fine so there should be no data issues (no, I did not check eye patterns.) The reason for a rating of < 5 starts is that the cable itself does not appear to have a great deal of structural integrity. The insulation appears thin and I very much suspect that if I gave it a good tug (as would happen if you were pulling cable through tight areas) that something would give. This would not be a problem with 3' or 6' lengths but I purchased a 50 footer to run through and around a few obstacles. I was extra careful so everything came out OK but, if I had to do things over, I'd purchase something else.
