Joe's on record as feeling this exceptional recording contains some of his very best playing (see Allmusic) . I won't argue with that in the least . For Joe and this session , it's ALL about the songs . This is NOT a "look at my virtuosity" jazz guitar quartet record . The virtuosity of it's various members ; Dave Samuels (vibes) , Chip Jackson (acoustic bass) and Terry Clarke emerges organically , easily and as a result of Joe's frameworks . Mr. Beck coaxes lovely , interesting and involving songs through a number of fairly discreet methods . Very effective strumming , LOTS of great rhythm work , superb note selection and an economy of play among them . Enough variation in guitar sounds (from song to song) and song types are certainly here . It's clear these guys all got really inspired by one another . Each and EVERY gentleman plays his heart out and solos gorgeously . The delights here are many . Trust me on this one . Deeply rewarding .
