It's Not That Useless!
I love this entire series, first started by Noel Botham and the Useless Information Society with The Book of Useless Information . Noel Botham published four more books in the series: The Ultimate Book of Useless Information: A Few Thousand More Things You Might Need to Know ( But ProbablyDon't) , The Best Book of Useless Information Ever: A Few Thousand Other Things You Probably Don't Need to Know (But Might as Well Find Out) , The Amazing Book of Useless Information: More Things You Didn't Need to Know But Are About to Find Out , and The World's Greatest Book of Useless Information: If You Thought You Knew All the Things You Didn't Need to Know - Think Again before Don Voorhees took over as author of the series.Yes, much of the information seems "useless," but it's extremely entertaining! I have also found myself remembering facts from the books during certain situations, so I don't see them as foolish. I devour these books as soon as I get them and highlight my favorite facts, which include: (1) "Sister Boom-Boom was a transvestite nun who ran for mayor of San Francisco in 1982. He/she received more than twenty thousand votes" (Book 1, page 167), (2) "Assassination Associations: Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. Both presidents' wives lost children while living in the White House. Both were shot on a Friday. Both were shot in the head. Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln. Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Lincoln was shot at the Ford theater. Kennedy was shot in a Ford Lincoln car. Booth ran from the theater and was caught in a warehouse. Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theater. Booth and Oswald were both shot before their trials." (Book 4, pages 144-146), (3) "The male paper nautilus [octopus] has a penis that will detach and swim under its own power to the female" (Book 7, page 154).Don Voorhees went on to publish The Essential Book of Useless Information: The Most Unimportant Things You'll Never Need to Know (The New York Times Bestselling) , The Perfectly Useless Book of Useless Information: You'll Never Need to Know Anything That's in This Book...But Read It Anyway , and The Indispensable Book of Useless Information: Just When You Thought It Couldn't Get Any More Useless--It Does . The 9th book in the series, The Super Book of Useless Information: The Most Powerfully Unnecessary Things You Never Need to Know comes out in October 2011.I highly recommend the entire series! **Tip: When buying online, wait a few days after the book first comes out. In no time, someone will be selling a used copy for a much cheaper price.** Like That's Going To Help

More Useless Info For Your Daily Life
I recieved this installment of The Useless Information series about two or three weeks ago and have since read it from cover to cover. This may be the fastest I've ever read any book that was more than 50 pages. Anywho, I did enjoy this book. It's not my favorite in the series but it is good to add it to the collection. I'd probably say that the first book in the series is the best but I will say that I was pleased that they didn't repeat any info from previous books plus the illustration on the front cover is very clever. Some of the material (i.e. the stuff about the planets) was either a little hard to put into perspective or just a little boring. The first chapters and the last few chapters made the book enjoyable to me...but honestly, as long as the writers keep producing these books, I'll keep reading them.
