Rion Palram - Canopia Hobby 2/Grand 2/Prestige 2/EcoGrow 2 Automatic Roof Vent Opener, Gray, 15.7" Lx2.7 Wx2 H

I purchased these openers for my Grandio greenhouse, and am happy to report that they did fit and are working fine so far. I used to own a Rion greenhouse and was very impressed with the durability of the openers, even in the winter, so this is why I wanted Rion openers once again. These openers do not have to be removed for the winter unless heavy snow puts too much weight/pressure on them. My original Grandio openers had a warning on the instructions that they cannot be exposed to freezing temperatures, and this was unacceptable to me. After attaching the flat adapter piece that came with these, I found enough matching holes to attach them to my Grandio windows (see attached photo). I will deduct a point from my rating for two reasons. First, the hardware bags, although sealed, were missing several small nuts that I needed. Second, these openers are not made by Rion, but by Palhram, and are in fact Palhram 701338 openers, which can be purchased for far less money in many places, including this very Web site. I did not appreciate having to pay $20 more per opener for the Rion name when Rion isn't even the manufacturer. They are probably fantastic openers and Palhram probably made my first set of Rion openers, so I am glad to have them, but not glad to have been misled. So, overall I highly recommend these openers, at least for now, but check back in about a year to see if I change my four-star rating after I test them for a whole winter and summer.

Add image does not match product; short closure spring (1/2 length) on received product. Knurled brass adjustment nut not present on received product; plastic with brass insert instead. Having yet to install on Rion Grand Gardner, installation hopefully as straight forward as instructions lead me to believe. Looks simple enough with 6 small attachment bolts; but, not anxious to deal with tedious adjustments in placement of attachment mechanisms with very small boltsInstructions included for installation on Palram GH and appear no more involved; still no drilling involved

I am replacing this unit only 2 months after purchase because the wax seal broke and the vent is now nonfunctional. I am hoping that this unit was an anomaly, because they are supposed to last for several years. I live in Michigan, where warm weather can be associated with windy storms, and it may be that jostling by the wind was half the reason for failure. But I hope not, otherwise I won't be able to use this kind of vent opener.When it worked it was exactly what I wanted and worked well. It was a real pain to figure out how to assemble it into my older model greenhouse, but the variety of hardware provided eventually produced a good combination.

Still playing with lubrication and adjustments to get it to close when the temperature cools off. Seems like the return spring is a bit too weak. Still nice to have it open to prevent the greenhouse from overheating.

Almost 2 years in use and still working

These vent openers are working great. I just wish there was a way to close them went we get torrential downpours. Unfortunately, the inside of my greenhouse gets soaked.

Lots of brackets included to make it work with a variety of windows. Works great.

We purchased a greenhouse from Backyard Living Source. We did not realize that their products are made by the Palram Industries out of Isreal.. If you need to file a claim against your product, Backyard Living Source will pass your problem off on Palram Industries, who will ignore your claims.. On top of worthless warranties, their products are very inferior.. They leak, they fall apart, this product, the automatic roof vent opener, doesn't work correctly and will not open when you need it to... These are plastic parts and they will not last longer than just a few short years.. Save your self a headache and buy from an American company that will handle problems themselves..
