The product can be located remotely from the computer as it has about a 1 meter (3 foot) USB to USB cord.The documentation implies there is a CD for installation, but thankfully there was a USB stick instead. The USB stick had installation SW for Linux, Mac (10.6 to 10.13), and Windows. I have tried the Windows version only. I am using windows 10. The instruction booklet could use some updating, as beyond the USB vs CD difference, things did not work as the booklet stated. I had to manually restart my computer to get the installation to work even though the book says the installation SW should have guided me to do that. Once that was done, things seem to work well. I can see all my home WIFI routers, and even my neighbors is showing 100% signal strength whereas on my phone (G' S7) the neighbors router only shows 2/4 bars.I purchased this to use on someone else's computer in an institution where the signal strength is marginal. If I think of it, I'll try to update this review in a couple of months after I try that out.

The BAD FIRST - Scan the usb drive your give because there’s not only drivers on it but malware as well.This device uses Realtek chipset and works very well. again don't use the USB with out scanning first.Just make sure you check that drive. So sad that a seller on here does this.UPDATE:Product is still working great! Again, DON'T use the usb drive to install the drivers with out scanning it first as there is dangerous software on this drive that will allow others to take over your computer. Just go get the REALTEK USB WIRELESS LAN UTILITY software.UNDERSTAND this would be a 5 star product if it wasn't for the nefarious software on the USB drive and that is why it lost 3 stars.

For context, I was trying to use this adapter to get higher data speeds with an external antenna as my built-in desktop antenna is blocked by walls and sits under my desk. The signal was fairly good in a direct line of sight setup, but dropped off rapidly with even a little bit of wall blockage. That was not my issue, really. The problem I had was that the USB cable would not stay securely in the adapter housing, causing intermittent disconnect/reconnect (often). Even a little vibration would cause a problem. Even after I taped the cable to the housing, 30 minutes later the adapter died. Oh well, good thing I bought this through Amazon as I can another adapter (different brand) within a day and a half and returns with Amazon rock.

Have a Surface Pro 3 and the network card stopped working. Bought this adapter hoping that it would solve the problem since it more than likely a hardware problem.Driver installs easy enough but the Surface has a hard time recognizing the device after driver installation and when plugged in.Disabled the internal device, rebooted again (hoping that the Surface would only recognize the external one) and unplugged device, plugged back in, recognized it long enough for me to log into my network for 30 seconds then the device dies again. Tried this several times, reinstalled the driver for the Realtek, no luck, and threw the external device in the trash.I would like to add that this did not work for me, however it does not mean it would not work for other people on other systems. I am just reviewing my experience with what I bought.In conclusion: Time to get a new computer.

At first, this thing worked great. Solid connection, speed, etc. Fast forward to a month later (and coincidentally the day after the return window ended), and now it's struggling to work for longer than an hour. Reinstalling drivers and switching USB ports doesn't work, and when it does start to bug out it messes with some Windows functions as well (biggest issue is Windows explorer starting to fail as well). This forces a hard reset since Windows will just hang on the Shut Down/Restart screen.If you only need a wireless adapter for a month, this is great, any longer and you're better off looking elsewhere.

This will not work with a Wally Satellite Receiver..But it should - :(I need a WiFi adapter that works with anything you plug it into...

It works ok as long as your not more then a few feet away from where you are grabbing your signal from...

I was having issues getting a specific wireless router. After plugging this in the driver was installed immediately.Signals for the router I wanted popped up immediately. If your router is weak your laptop will pul it out of the air.
