Beautifully made, heavy/good quality. Does fire caps, but very badly.
I was surprised at how well-made this cap-gun is and the detail/weight.The gun is a mixture of metal, and hard plastic, with some moving parts.Especially with the low price, it's fantastically designed.The gun does 'fire' i.e. the trigger mechanism is designed to take caps, however the cap firing aspect with the only real let-down.It takes standard paper roll caps, the universal ones you cam get in amy famcy-dress or joke shop (not the plastic 'revolver-style' ones); though admittedly they don't work very well..1. The compartment opens to place the paper rolls in, but there's no 'feeding' mechanism to reload the next cap, so you have to pull the roll up mamually each time.. and hope you've centered the cap 'roll' where it needs to go to meet the hammer.2. The paper roll sits in a position in the gun in an indent i.e. whereby it isn't 'flat' when the hammer hits it, this means instead if an 'impact hit' against the cap on a flat surface (=better bang) the hammer is piercing the cap like a being hit with a nail and hammer, stifling the cap to a very weak 'pop' at best.In summary, if you're looking for a decorative item to go with a costume.. it's exceptional. If you're looking for one specifically for the 'bang' and 'smoke' then sadly, you might have to give this a miss.

The handle is a bit squeaky where it is not fixed tightly to the metal frame which joins to the metal barrel. The flintlock devise is very loose. Fires caps through a chamber that pulls back along towards the cocking pin and then lifts up. It is on a tight steel spring. Smoke and sparks fire out of the barrel and firing pin area when fired. Caps can self propel on rapid fire, but some may miss detonation. Schrödel have made better replica or toy guns such as the highwayman Derringer which you can load those Throw Bangers into. Or the Flintlock pistol made by Gohner which is also better and takes caps in the same way or throw bangers on the firing plate. All three of these are metal frame and barrel with hardened plastic imitation wood grip handles.
